This course is designed to introduce DFLL students to university-level English writing. We will begin by learning about the basic rules for writing a good essay. Then we will study some good essays written by some famous contemporary prose writers. We will also learn about punctuation, spelling and mechanics and common sentence faults. We will practice patterns of paragraph development including, but not limited to, analytic (definition, division-classification), descriptive (description, narration, process), and argumentative (comparison and contrast, cause and effect).
